Richard Ansett (UK) is an award-winning photographer known for his striking images. He created the series Mother & Child during the Partly Cloudy residency by IZOLYATSIA (curated by Boris Mikhailov), held in Donetsk in 2011. The photographs represent images of mothers and babies at an ambiguous moment of separation, reflecting both the author’s own orphanhood and the human condition, in which the mother as primary caregiver is both present and absent in the adult. Ironically, some of the children in the photos have been separated from their mothers as the result of the events in eastern Ukraine.
IZOLYATSIA is a non-profit non-governmental platform for contemporary culture, founded in Donetsk in 2010 and relocated to Kyiv in 2014.
